With the Defy Classic, Zenith is offering a modern and very technical interpretation of an everyday sports watch. Unfortunately, this watch genre doesn’t get enough attention from product development at most manufacturers, though it is still essential to most of us watch enthusiasts.
At Baselworld 2017, Zenith relaunched their Defy collection with a focus on the highest precision and accuracy. They started with the Defy El Primero 21 Chronograph and then followed with the Defy Lab, a rare concept watch featuring a super-high-frequency oscillator. Luckily, they have now introduced a relatively simple “entry-level” model following the same philosophy.
The new Zenith Defy Classic is clearly a modern sports watch: It is made of brushed titanium, available with either an impressive skeletonized dial or a clean blue one, and comes on a titanium bracelet or a leather or rubber strap. Inside this piece, you will find classic watchmaking with new innovations. It features Zenith’s proven Elite 670 base caliber, which now comes with a silicon pallet-lever and escapement-wheel. Other watches may break records or have complicated functions that are hard to pronounce and even harder to understand, but the Defy Classic might, in reality, be all the watch you need.
