Description

John Cragg. A Rare and Important Heavy 18ct Yellow Gold Cabriolet Keywind Fusee Lever Pocket Watch C1850.

Dial: The white enamel dial signed John Cragg London with Roman numerals outer minute track and subsidiary seconds dial at six o'clock. The original blued steel Fleur De Lys hands with blued steel seconds hand.

Case: The heavy gold case which is finely engraved with a gentleman riding a horse in the countryside with flowers and garlans to the edge of the case. The rear cover is finely engraved with hunting dogs and again engraved with flowers and garlands to the edge of the case. The ingenuity of the case is that the watch can convert from a hunting case to an open face watch by lifting the body of the case and twisting it around putting it back in the case. The cases are hallmarked and numbered.

Movement: The keywind three quarter plate fuse lever movement, fully jewelled, numbered and signed John Cragg, 8 Northampton Square London. The movement has the winding arbours on the backplate. The movement also has the original dustcover.

This watch is in pristine and immaculate condition with the engraving showing no sign of wear and tear.

This watch is a wonderful example of English craftsmanship and ingenuity at it's finest. It would make an excellent addition to one's collection.
