Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Carbon Concept CCW1 Tourbillon Chronograph Limited Edition Openworked with Linear Chronograph Minute Counter and Function Selection Indicator and Power-Reserve Indication, Skeleton Exhibition Case Back with Green Eloxed Aluminum & Carbon Fiber Bridge, Fitted on a White Vulcanized Rubber Strap with Black Titanium AP Folding Deployant Buckle, 44mm
So here you have the nicest Audemars Piguet wristwatch ever: the Royal Oak Concept Carbon Tourbillon Chronograph. Elite would be an understatement. AP re-thought everything with this watch. Let’s start with the movement: First of all, watch collectors will recognize the three position indicator H-N-R at the bottom of the dial from Richard Mille’s movements. Set by the crown, this shows if the movement is in winding, setting or neutral mode. Another highlight is the 10 day power reserve and its construction from an array of fascinating and advanced materials including a mainplate of green aluminum that is sapphire blasted and eloxed. Bridges are nickel silver with black PVD and power-reserve cone is coated with amorphous carbon to make it all but impervious to wear. The visible from the front tourbillon bridges and chronograph scales are made from hand-drawn polished steel. Pretty much everything else in the movement is rendered from carbon and then treated with a special coating for both aesthetic and mechanical enhancement (mostly resistant to wear/reduction of friction). Technical features of the movement are: tourbillon, chronograph with linear display, ten 10 day power reserve with hand-winding, 34 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour, balance spring with Breguet-Philipps curve and comprised of 384 individual parts. Case is compressed carbon which is simultaneously very hard and very light. It also looks very cool with its characteristic light and dark grey composition. Generously proportioned at 44mm diameter by 18.7mm thick, is also has a ceramic bezel, crown and chronograph pushers. Properly speaking, there is no dial as this is a skeletonized face. It is much more thought out and balanced than most complicated watch dials, however. Time is shown with the large skeletonized hands and there is a minutes and seconds chapter on the flange. Power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock; linear chronograph display fills the right side of the face; the three positional H-N-R indicator is at 6 o’clock; tourbillon is visible at 9 o’clock. Audemars Piguet once again stuns the world of horology with its Royal Oak Carbon Concept Tourbillon and Chronograph This model also features an original linear chronograph minute counter. The extremely light timepiece also incorporates the complexity of a 384-part Calibre 2895 tourbillon chronograph movement. - Black case made by forged carbon fibers - an extremely light weight & hard material. - Ceramic bezel, crown & pushers. - Movement mainplate (which doubles as the dial) & the baseplate are made of forged carbon. - The central bridge is green eloxed aluminum - some of which is visible through the case back. - Power Reserve indicator at the 12 o'clock position. The watch has an amazing 10 day power reserve is achieved through the use of 2 barrels. Each barrel is wound by a mere 19.75 turns. Although the use of 2 barrels allow for a power reserve of 290 hours, however, an ingenious locking system - in the low and high winding-level zones - concentrates the running time on a 237-hour period, thereby ensuring optimal operation. Chronograph/Stopwatch function: - Large central sweep seconds counter hand. - An ingenious linear 30 minute counter. The single minutes from 0-9 to the left of the linear counter & immediately to the right 1 & 2 increments indicating when the counter is at 10 or in the 20 minutes counting. Selection Indicator at the 6 o'clock position: - H indicates that the crown is in the Time Correction position. - N indicates that the crown is in the Neutral position. - R indicates that the crown is in winding position. Tourbillon- At the 9 o'clock position is composed of more than 70 parts & weighs just under 0.45 grams. The Tourbillon is secured by a matching bridge to the linear 30 minute chronograph counter lending symmetry to the dial. |
